Succulent leaves falling off when I barely touch them

⚑ Report

My echeveria has started dropping leaves at the slightest touch — even brushing past it knocks one off. The fallen leaves look slightly translucent and squishy.

It's in a west window and I water it roughly every 10 days. Is this normal leaf shedding or something worse?

Sam, squishy + translucent + falling at a touch is the classic overwatering signature in succulents — every 10 days is too frequent unless your mix is extremely gritty. Normal shedding only affects the very bottom leaves, and they dry crispy, not squishy.

Stop watering completely for two weeks. Check the stem: if it's firm, you've caught it early — resume watering only when the leaves feel slightly soft, roughly every 3–4 weeks. If the stem has black or mushy patches, behead the healthy top, let it callus for 3 days, and re-root it in dry gritty mix. The dropped healthy-ish leaves can be propagated too — free plants out of a scare!
