What to include so we can actually help
Most people contact us with a gardening question that cannot be answered without context. “Why is my plant dying?” has about forty possible answers, and thirty of them depend on things only you can see.
So the more of this you include, the more useful the reply will be.
- Your location or climate. City is ideal. Advice for Manchester and for Chennai is not the same advice.
- Indoors or outdoors, and whether the plant is in a pot or in the ground.
- How much direct sun the spot gets, in hours, not adjectives.
- Your watering routine and when you last watered.
- Which leaves are affected — old lower leaves or new growth. This single detail separates several causes.
- A photo if you can, ideally in daylight and close enough to see the leaf surface.

How long a reply takes
Usually two to three working days. Sometimes longer during busy sowing months, when the question volume roughly doubles.
Factual corrections jump the queue. If a guide states something wrong, that is more urgent than anything else in the inbox, and we would rather hear it bluntly than not at all.
We read every message. We cannot always reply individually, particularly to identical questions that an existing guide already answers in more detail than an email could.
What we cannot do
Being clear about this saves everyone time.
- Medical or veterinary advice. We can tell you what a plant is and what sources say about its toxicity. If a person or an animal has eaten something, do not contact us first — call a doctor, a vet, or a service such as the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center straight away.
- Legal identification for safety decisions. Never eat a wild plant or mushroom on the strength of an online identification, ours included.
- Paid placement. We do not sell links, sponsored posts or guest articles. Offers of this kind are declined, so please do not send them.
- Diagnosing a plant with no information. A photo of a whole balcony rarely shows what is wrong.
Partnerships, press and corrections
Genuine collaborations are welcome. That includes horticulturists who want to review or contribute to a guide, researchers happy to be cited, and press enquiries.
Commercial partnerships are considered only where they do not affect what we recommend. Our affiliate disclosure explains how the commercial side already works.
To report a correction, a link to the page and the specific sentence is perfect. Naming a better source is even better, and we will credit it.
Your message and your privacy
What you send is used to answer you and nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list because you asked a question, and we do not pass your details to anyone.
Photos you send may be used to improve a guide, but never with your name or location attached unless you say we can. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
