Blue Flowers

Blue Flowers — Gardening Guider

True blue is the rarest colour in the flower world — most “blue” plants on labels bloom purple. The flowers tagged here are the genuine article: cornflowers, delphiniums, morning glories, butterfly pea (a star in Indian gardens), forget-me-nots and gentians. Each guide covers the growing details plus the colour caveats — soil pH famously turns hydrangeas blue or pink, and heat can wash blue toward lavender. A drift of real blue is the most striking thing a border can do, partly because visitors so rarely see it. Pair with white or yellow neighbours and the blue reads even bluer.

A trick worth knowing: blue reads far bluer next to soft yellow or plain white than it does beside pink or purple, which quietly cancel it out. Placement does more for the colour than any variety choice will.
